El estadio Vicente Calderón

With 35,000 square meters and a capacity of nearly 55,000 spectators, the Vicente Calderon stadium is one of the colossal sports facilities which is the pride of joy of Madrid.
This football pitch is owned by Atletico de Madrid, one of the leading clubs in the Spanish Soccer League.
Located on the river Manzanares in the district of Arganzuela, this team, known as the mattresses, has a reputation of having the best ever fans  in Spain.

Works in this stadium were started in 1961 and it was inaugurated in 1966, although with the name of Manzanares Stadium. It was not until 1971 when it finally adopted its present name, as decided by the stakeholders, who unanimously wanted to christen it with the club president’s name at that time.
At present, the Vicente Calderon has 35 bars, whose construction in concrete has become a flagship for Madrid.Situado a orillas del río Manzanares, en el distrito de Arganzuela, el feudo colchonero tiene fama de albergar a la afición más sufrida y más sacrificada de toda España.

Este estadio comenzó a construirse en 1961 y se inauguraba en 1966, aunque con el nombre de Estadio de Manzanares. Hasta 1971 no adquirió su denominación actual, tras la celebración de una Junta de Accionistas, que quisieron por unanimidad bautizarlo con el nombre del presidente del club en aquella época.

En la actualidad el Vicente Calderón cuenta con un servicio de 35 bares que dan cobertura a todo el estadio, cuya construcción en hormigón se ha convertido en una insignia para los madrileños.

Hasta él se llega fácilmente en transporte público utilizando la Línea 5 de metro con parada en Pirámides o bien, si elegimos los autobuses urbanos, gracias a las líneas 17, 50 y 56.
