Summer cinemas in Madrid
In spite of the heat from the streets, Madrid in August is full of things to do , from the Summers in the Villa, the La Paloma festival or La Melonera at the start of September. The city never sleeps and boredom never raises its head.
One of the best ways to beat the heat is with an ice cream, enjoying all the entertainment and the many things to do when the temperature becomes just right: when the night falls.
Open-air summer cinemas are a wonderful way to take advantage of the good weather. Here are a few of the top attractions for movie lovers:
- La Casa Encendida on the Ronda de Valencia. The terrace has been transformed since the end of June into a space for indie movies and debates about some of the films.
- The Glass Gallery in Cibeles with a programme that lasts until September 12 with classics such as The Seven Year Itch and The Sound of Music and modern movies such as Pain and Glory or The Realm.
- Conde Duque Cultural Centre. In the southern courtyard, silence falls as the movie begins to roll, with a mixture of classic and modern cinema for all audiences and ages as well as musicals.
- Drive-in movies in Chamartín. This was a big novelty a few years ago and a lot of people drove in to see the movies just like they do in Grease and in so many other American movies, enjoying the full drive-in experience with a selection of different food trucks.
- La Bombilla Park. Near Principe Pio, it also hosts a wide range of movies, activities and music to liven up the summer. Take a look at the programmes and choose the one you like best.
