Gourmet shopping
Make the most of your trip to Madrid to go on a day of delicatessen and gourmet shopping. For some time now, this offer has grown considerably and you can now find endless options to choose from. One of these places is Platea, Madrid’s best and most popular gastronomic leisure complex, which comprises shops dedicated to the most refined clients, such as Gold Gourmet, which has been in Madrid for 30 years and since 2014 in Platea (Calle Goya, 7 – Metro Colón).
Without leaving these large shopping spaces, we recommend a visit to any of the Gourmet Experience centres located in the many El Corte Inglés department stores spread around the city, especially the one in Callao, due to the stunning views it has overlooking Gran Vía. Located on the ninth floor, you can buy products from the most exclusive and exquisite brands but also try its gastronomic offer in any of the bars they have, such as: Hamburguesa Nostra, Tse Yang Dimsum Club and Al Cuadrado, which is dedicated to handmade pizza.
If you love wine, you can’t leave Madrid without visiting Lavinia (Calle Ortega y Gasset, 16). Founded in 1999, it emerged wanting to generate a “revolutionary concept” in wine distribution, so much so that their shops now have more than 6,500 reviews (they have shops in different European countries). Their wine-tasting format is an interesting one, allow you to try the wines you wish to buy with a small dose of the selected bottle for a low price.
Also, there is no better idea than combining wine and cheese (don’t let those on an alkaline diet hear you!). The best shop for this pairing is Poncelet (Calle Argensola, 27), where you can find the most delicious DO cheeses from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and, of course, Spain. They also sell gift baskets starting at 40 euros, an excellent choice for a souvenir.
Lastly, if beer is your thing, at Más que Cervezas (Calle León, 32 – Metro Antón Martín) and at Labirratorium (Calle Blasco de Garay, 21- Metro Argüelles and San Bernardo) you can find an excellent selection of it.
