La familia panda del zoo de Madrid aumenta

By | 19 August, 2016 | 0 comments

Some of you may remember Chulín, the most popular panda bear at the Zoo Aquarium, who sadly died twenty years ago. Snowflake, the albino gorilla who was the icon of the Barcelona Zoo, outlived Chulín for a few years but also died in 2003. Luckily, life goes on and nature doesn’t stop, as we saw with the wonderful birth of a baby panda bear on August 31st of this year. The baby panda was described to be “well formed, very active and with excellent vital signs” according to zoo staff.

We will have to wait a few months to see the new addition to the family, who is the sister of Xing Bao, the panda bear who turned three last August, a new boost to stop this breed from being in risk of extinction. You can follow the growth of the baby panda on this blog.

As well as seeing this friendly animals, the zoo at Casa de Campo has many more attractions, with peculiar animals such as the European bison, the red-necked wallaby, the bongo, a type of African antelope; and the Barbary sheep, considered as one of the zoo’s most elegant species.

Make sure you see the different shows that take place with dolphins, sea lions, birds of prey and exotic birds. In its aquarium, one of the two parts of this animal park, you can see fascinating species such as the grey and bull sharks, different kinds of turtles, the giant goliath grouper and the Mediterranean seahorse.

Plan your visit and pay attention to the timetables of the shows, talks on the habits of different animals and the daily activities. You can buy your ticket here, which costs approximately 20 euros for adults and 18 euros for children from the ages of 3 to 7, and enjoy special discounts if you buy it online in advance. Enjoy the animal world from up close. We are all part of nature, although sometimes we may forget it.
